Welcome to the club ! I’m sure you will survive. Gimp should be an ok alternative to photoshop and while you’re at that you may want to look at inkscape if you’re into vector graphics and stuff.

There are also a few IDEs that you can have a look at too – eclipse, kdevelop, and some others ( I use none of them so you’d want to search google as usual). If you’re in BBB, drop by at our meet up every thursday nite.
